Crowns, also called caps, are a common type of treatment used to restore a damaged tooth that is too fractured for a simple filling. They are synthetic coverings over the top of the tooth that hide signs of damage while also maintaining functionality of the tooth. Crowns cover everything from cracks and old fillings to large cavities and broken teeth
How do crowns work?
Getting a crown involves a multistep procedure. First, cleaning and shaping prepare the tooth to become a correct fit for the crown. Next, impressions are taken and sent into a dental laboratory to assist technicians in creating a custom crown. While the patient waits for the permanent crown to be prepared, a temporary one is made in the office to serve as a placeholder until it arrives. The new crown is then adjusted, fitted and adhered to the tooth with dental cement.

What types of crowns do we offer?
There are a few different types of crowns, including full-cast gold crowns, porcelain fused to metal crowns, or all-ceramic porcelain crowns. While all of these types of crowns are viable options, we primarily use the all-ceramic porcelain crowns due to their pleasing aesthetics, excellent function and strength.
